|CA||AB 1488||6/1/17: In Senate. Read first time. To Committee on Rules for assignment.||Requires the State Department of Public Health to establish a sickle cell disease center pilot program. Funds can be used for the establishment of a telehealth system or an online consultation service to support patients with sickle cell disease and health care professionals who treat them.|

To Committee on Rules for Assignment.||This bill allows Medi-Cal managed care plans to request alternative access standards, if they have exhausted all other reasonable options to obtain providers to meet either time and distance or timely access standards. It would allow telemedicine or e-visits as a means of alternative access standards.|

Hearing cancelled at request by author.||Creates a pilot program in counties that elect to participate, designed to increase the capacity of health providers that serve pregnant and postpartum women up to one year after delivery to effectively prevent, identify, and manage postpartum depression and other mental health conditions. Provides that the pilot program would be privately funded. The pilot program may include a provider-to-provider or patient-to-provider consultation program and utilize telehealth or e-consult technologies.|

Referred to Committee on Rules for Assignment.||This bill would authorize a registered pharmacy technician, who meets certain requirements, to work at a remote dispensing site pharmacy and to perform order entry, packaging, manipulative, repetitive, and other nondiscretionary tasks under the supervision of a pharmacist at a supervising pharmacy using a telepharmacy system. The bill would prohibit a pharmacy technician working at a remote dispensing site pharmacy from performing certain tasks, including receiving a new prescription order orally. The bill would authorize a pharmacist at a supervising pharmacy to supervise up to 2 pharmacy technicians at each remote dispensing site pharmacy in addition to any pharmacy technicians being supervised at the supervising pharmacy.|

Adds a new definition of telemedicine and stipulates requirements for local EMS agency stroke critical care systems, including that emergency department neurological expertise be provided in person or through telemedicine in acute stroke ready hospitals.

Clarifies that an occupational therapist does not need to obtain a patient’s/client’s consent for subsequent telehealth services once the patient initially consents to receive occupational therapy services via telehealth. Deletes informed from the language and otherwise reconstructs the language in the subsection to make it read better.

Provides a new definition for telehealth and allows a facility administrator for mentally disordered inmates to develop policies and procedures to identify and evaluate inmates through telehealth.
